PWL are hostin our first juried exhibition in partnership with UAB's Department of Art and grant support from the Alabama Council on the Arts. We are very excited to announce that our juror for this show is amazing printmaker and UAH professor of art Katie Baldwin!

INK ONLY
A Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Prints


ELIGIBLE ENTRIES


The goal of Ink Only is to create awareness and educate the public about the many various methods explored in printmaking. The exhibition is open to all forms of original printmaking including traditional, digital, and experimental processes.


Established and emerging artists 18 and over currently living in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee are invited to enter.


PRIZES


First Prize: $300 plus Solo Show at Paperworkers Local in the following 12 months.
Second Prize: $150
Third Prize: $75


JUROR


Katie Baldwin, Assistant Professor of Art, Printmaking, The University of Alabama at Huntsville.


Katie Baldwin is a printmaker and book artist who has traveled internationally as an artist in residence. She was one of seven international artists selected in 2004 to learn traditional Japanese woodblock printing (mokuhanga) from master carvers and printers at the Nagasawa Residency on Awaji Island, Japan. Under Queen Anne’s Revenge Press, Baldwin produces artist’s books and woodblock prints. She has exhibited extensively, including Geida University in Tokyo, Japan and the Print Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her work can be found in many collections including the Library of Congress in Washington DC. She has received grant funding through several organizations, including the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and the Independence Foundation Fellowship in the Arts. Baldwin received her MFA from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She served as the Victor Hammer Fellow at Wells College from 2011-2013. Ink Only is sponsored by Paperworkers Local, a 501(c)(3) non-profit artists’ co-operative based around a printmaking facility in Birmingham, Alabama, in partnership with the UAB Department of Art and Art History, and with generous grant support from the Alabama Council on the Arts (www.arts.state.al.us/)


The members of PaperWorkers Local have pooled their resources to establish Birmingham’s first printmaking studio. The co-operative also exhibits the work of local artists and emerging artist from around the country, as well as offering workshops in various media. The exhibition will be held at the UAB Department of Art and Art History (www.uab.edu/art) PROJECT SPACE, an adaptive space that cultivates and supports meaningful creative investigation, interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation and entrepreneurship by providing an alternative platform for UAB Department of Art and Art History students, faculty and community to engage teaching, research, public service, and visual art practices. THE EXHIBITION


Opening Reception and Award Presentation August 25th 2017 at 5:00 to 7:00 PM.


August 25th-September 16th, 2017 in the UAB Department of Art’s Project Space located at 900 13th Street South in the UAB Humanities Building, Room 100 (on the east side of the building, facing 13th Street South)


HOW TO ENTER


Entries should be submitted via youjudgeit.org/pwlinkonly
$35 for 3 images.


PLEASE NOTE


Entries accepted for Exhibit must be submitted and reclaimed at the close of the Exhibit at the expense of the artist. Work may be dropped off and picked up in person at designated times or will be shipped back to the artist, return postage must be provided.

Works not received by the deadline will not be exhibited. Works must be framed, under plexi (no glass) and be ready to hang with D-ring or wire (no sawtooth hangers). All work must remain in the exhibition for the entire duration. All work must be clearly labeled on the back. Works exhibited for Ink Only will not be insured. All reasonable care will be taken; UAB and Paperworkers Local accept no responsibility for any loss or damage to artworks.
Images of any accepted work may be used for promotional purposes or documentation of this and future juried exhibitions.


Prices for any work offered for sale or Not For Sale (N.F.S.) must be indicated on the Entry form. There will be a 20% commission on the sale of any work payable to PaperWorkers Local, the non-profit sponsor.
